Where to Get Ready on your Wedding Day \\ A Post for Brides + Grooms to Be!

Happy Tuesday! This post is for all of you brides + grooms planning your wedding over the next several months! We get a lot of questions from our couples about the best things they can do to ensure lovely photos. We cover a lot of them in our Planning Guide we send over when our couples book, but we thought it would be fun to share some of those tips with you today! One part of the day that I especially love photographing is the getting ready portion. We split up – Tim with the guys, and I’m with the girls, and cover the tail end of preparation for your wedding. Typically the levels of excitement and nerves are super high, your makeup is freshly finished and your favorite people are all surrounding you, which makes for some amazing emotional moments and also stunning bridal portraits! Here’s a few key tips to remember when planning your getting ready location for your wedding day.

  1. Pick a location with tons of natural light!! Not only will this help your makeup + hair stylists out, it makes your skin glow and gives your photos a light, airy feel – especially for bridal portraits. It makes documenting those candid + emotional moments have the same beautiful cohesive feel as your portraits, ceremony etc. Dark hotel rooms can often have a yellow cast to them, but picking a location with big windows ensures lovely skin tones.  Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0002 Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0003 2. Pick a location with charm + style that flows naturally into the rest of your wedding day! If your wedding has a rustic vibe, or a Gatsby vibe, or a camp vibe, find a beautiful Airbnb to complement the overall feel of the wedding rather than a modern hotel room! We adore telling a story through photos, and it looks so natural when the getting ready location matches the vibe of your vision. Some venues have incredible bridal suites that are available to use. If their bridal suite is awesome but is a bit too small for your entourage, we sometimes encourage getting ready together in a hotel room and doing your finishing touches/ dressing in the suite!  Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0009 Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0006 Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0015 Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0007 3. Pick a location either onsite or within a few minutes’ drive from your ceremony + reception location. This helps minimize travel time, any delays with transportation, maximizes hangout time with your friends and family, and helps you feel more relaxed!  Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0012 Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0011 4. Check out Airbnb for amazing, unique homes to rent! You might be surprised how many charming homes you can find in a location you may have only thought contained hotels! Your photos will look so much more unique and it will give your photographer lots more options when photographing you!  Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0014 Lauren Fair Photography Tips for Getting Ready location_0013
