I’m not you…you’re not me…and that is a wonderful thing!

Today was a good dose of chuuuuurch. This morning, we talked about the BIG plans God has for each of our lives. But not generic, big-picture type of plans– specific, passion-driven, right-in-front-of-us big causes that are put in our hearts & lives for a reason. I was SO encouraged and wanted to share with you all a few things that spoke to me 🙂

How many of us have been jealous of another? At any point? I think we’ll all admit that we have each dealt with it, even for a fleeting moment. You know what the cool thing is? God isn’t telling us to be more like another person. He’s asking us to be the BEST version of ourselves, because nobody else was created exactly like us! Our personalities, gifts, experiences, jobs, friends, family & heart passions are all totally unique and lead us to completely unique experiences in life. There are different sized dreams, goals and ambitions — and sure, some people will be more “visible” with their dreams than others. But we can’t play it safe, look at others and think, “Hey, well they have achieved so much, so I might as not even try.” For me, I want to look at others who have achieved so much and say, “Hey, that is amazing for you!! But let me think about a way that God’s gifted me uniquely to bless others in a totally different way, and achieve totally different, groundbreaking levels of success in other areas!” Maybe that sounds like a big thing to say. But I think that’s the beauty of it — if we think we can achieve it without help, we are mistaken 🙂 This actually totally ties in with everything I learned at the What If Conference in Cabo this past January (more info about What If – click here!) — that we are all so unique, and there is absolutely no need to compare ourselves to each other! In the photography industry, there is so much comparison. I think it’s about time that we stop! What would it look like if we were known as an amazing community of artists who supported each other, helped each other with ideas, & shared our collective inspiration together? I think the encouragement each of us would get from this would be incredible! There are so many people changing the face of the industry for the better, and I’m proud to call them friends & mentors. Oh, and this doesn’t apply to just photography! Insert any field, goal, dream, etc. in here and the results would still be the same! Find YOUR passion & pursue it wholeheartedly, and surround yourself with people who will encourage you along the way!

You are awesome. you are unique. You can do amazing things with the personality & gifts that YOU have, that no one else does. So what’s stopping you? Go out and change someone’s life this week! 😉

I agree with you 100% (especially in regards to the industry). Can’t we all just get along 🙂 Here’s to being true to yourself!ReplyCancel

I love this post and everything you said! It is so easy to compare ourselves to others in life (and especially in our industry) – that it is important to remember we are each unique & have different purposes meant just for us! Thanks for the reminder Lauren! xoxo! 🙂ReplyCancel
